The Appleton Collection includes more than 2,000 glass photographic negatives, taken in Media, Pennsylvania and vicinity from 1888 to 1909. Media Historic Archives received the collection in 1988, but until 2018 most of these pictures had never been seen by the public.
Used in Soldiers’ and Sailors' Monument composites, AP-8248 and AP-8249, which were used in commemorative booklet for dedication of the monument in 1903
Office was in Media on Jackson St. Hill was involved with the Rose Tree Fox Hunting Club, and hunting related prints, paraphernalia and photographs (including one of dogs, by Appleton) cover the walls and desk.
George Redmon married Elizabeth or Lizzie nee Horne, in the center of the photograph. She was a cousin of Stephen Appleton. See Ogden Genealogy, p. 120-121. They had two daughters who lived to adulthood: Bessie and Lillian, pictured in other photos in this collection.
Media 1897 directory lists George E. Whitaker, printer, h 428 E. Franklin. Perhaps he worked with Stephen Appleton at the Delaware County American. Elmer is probably George's son.

This may be the golf club built on the Rowland Farm property; the club later moved to Nether Providence Township and is now the Springhaven Country Club. The half-hidden house in the distance appears to be the Rowland farmhouse (compare to AP-4152-2).
