Hand-lettered business signs posted on tree, one for "Ja's (James) Haynes, upholsterer, est. 1885, steam carpet cleaning; call for and deliver all goods, Clifton Heights and Lansdowne" and a second for "Edward Brown, whitewashing, grading, cementing and landscape garden of all kinds. Carting. Box 107 Lansdowne." . Church on right in background is Lansdowne Baptist Church, at 17 E. Lacrosse Ave.

Frank Lees caption reads in part: Sweeney's Market once occupied [this corner]. When Bill Battey's Sporting Goods remodeled the building they uncovered this advertisement on the side of the building. After the photograph was taken, they covered the sign up again. Date is of the print; photograph may be older.
