Benjamin Hayes Smith was a surveyor and cartographer who prepared the first official street map of Media. Clement Lawrence Smith was a professor at Haverford, Swarthmore and Harvard colleges.

The American Legion Smith-Howard Post No. 93 purchased this building in the 1940s, as membership swelled during and after World War I. This was formerly the Media Men's Club. Centennial Book 35.
Tipping is distributing forms for Pennsylvania World War II veterans to apply for a state compensation bonus. Address given is for the location of the American Legion Smith-Howard Post 93 in 1950, where this photograph was probably taken.
The building later became the home of the Media Upper Providence Free Library. It was demolished in 2016, and a new library built on the site. Centennial Book 51.
