Sam Lemon, great great grandson of Cornelius and Martha Jane Ridley, with Kris Yarnall Sibinga, at the installation of the headstone for Cornelius and Martha Jane at Eden Cemetery 2001. Kris Sibinga is a direct descendant of Issac and Elizabeth Smedley Yarnall of Providence Quaker Meeting in Media, Pa., who gave Cornelius and Martha Jane refuge when they arrived as runaway slaves.

Samuel Johnson was accused of the murder of John Sharpless and sat in the Media Jail awaiting death by hanging for several years before his sentence was commuted to life in prison. Appleton probably photographed this 1886 document several years after it was executed.
