This may have been taken for a legal case related to the condition of the road, perhaps related to the ditch or drainage that seems to be the focus of this series of pictures, AP-8229-8231.

On the northwest corner of the intersection noted below, this house is still standing (2018). Henry Pearson, in Middletown Township, Delaware County, Pa. (286), claims that part of the house was built in 1681.
John Sharpless was murdered in the stable on his farm in 1885. he case dragged on until 1889, and was the most sensational in Delaware County history up to that point. These may be Appleton's retrospective photos of the scene of the crime. Shows barn, vegetable garden, cold frame, carriage.
